Measure the drainage system
Measure actual gutter runs, count inside and outside corners, note downspout locations and identify long or difficult runs.
Coordinate with roof replacement
If gutters are old or fascia is damaged, coordinating the work can reduce duplicated setup. Ask how drip edge, fascia, gutter hangers and roof edge details will be integrated.
If you are also considering a leaf screen, compare the gutter guard installation scope and cost drivers separately. Keep gutter replacement and guard installation as distinct line items so you can see whether either proposal includes cleaning and downspout work.
| Cost driver | Planning detail |
|---|---|
| Linear footage | Actual gutter run length |
| Material/profile | Aluminum, steel, copper or other system |
| Stories/access | Ladder, lift or staging needs |
| Downspouts | Count, length and discharge route |
| Fascia | Repair before gutter installation |
Keep gutters separate in quote comparison
If one roofer includes gutters and another does not, separate that line before comparing roof totals.
