Cubic yard formula
Multiply length × width × depth to get cubic volume, convert depth from inches to feet, then divide cubic feet by 27. The selected waste allowance is applied after the base volume.
When cubic yards are used
Bulk concrete, gravel, mulch, topsoil and similar materials are commonly sold by cubic yard. Supplier minimums and delivery increments can affect the practical order quantity.
