Clarify what is being measured
A room's floor area is not the same as paintable wall area. The Paint Calculator uses room length, width and wall height to estimate wall surface before coats and openings.
Preparation changes labor
Patching, sanding, caulking, stain blocking, damaged drywall and surface cleaning can add significant labor even when room size is unchanged.
One coat and two coats are different jobs
Color changes, new drywall, strong existing colors and product coverage can influence the number of coats. The calculator lets you test different coat assumptions.
Ceilings and trim are separate surfaces
Baseboards, crown molding, doors, windows and ceilings require different measurements and often different products or application methods. Make sure the quote says which surfaces are included.
Paint quality changes material cost
Price per gallon varies by product line and finish. Enter the actual product price and coverage rather than relying on a generic material allowance.
